I’ve done little writing this week, however that’s not to say I’ve done nothing. I’ve been making steady, if slow, progress on editing my short story and I’ve poked at my longer title a few times as well. My biggest struggle this week has been the focus part. I’ve sat down a number of times to write, but keeping my mind on the task at hand has been the hard part. I’ll often jump from thing to thing. I’m hoping to work a bit more on my discipline over the next several weeks (well forever, but especially these next several weeks). To do this I’m trying to write less, but more often.
My idea there is that if I’m in the habit of sitting down to write I’ll do that more often, I’ll slowly build up the mind muscles needed to stay on task. Maybe I’m barking up the wrong tree with this strategy, but even if it is the wrong way to fix the problem if it gets me writing it’s worth trying! The good news is that I do really want to keep writing, and I’m excited by the opportunity before me. The trick is going to be taking that opportunity and putting it to use.
Hopefully next week I’ll have some more to talk about, but at least I had what I did. Even little victories are victories!
