No Post on Sundays!

Frisk (Undertale)

Waiting

So I promised I would do a post today and with so many things going on this weekend, I almost decided not to.  But I’m here now, since I kept saying I would make a post.  These are just a couple of things I worked on during the last week.  Fanart with Frisk from Undertale (yes, again…because I’d been watching fanmade Undertale videos) and then a random anthromorphic … I don’t know what she is, but I thought she was pretty.  Anyway, yes, both of these are super large.  Mostly I’ve been trying to do work on a larger scale so that even if I resize it to something smaller, it will look decent or even better.

Anyway…that is really it.  I just wanted to post some stuff that was unrelated to the drawing challenge to kinda show that I am starting to draw things beyond that, which to me seems like considerable progress.  That’s all for now! See you guys next Friday!

Bob Ross inspired work

I’ll be honest – I didn’t pick up drawing again with the daily drawing challenge.  I started doing some digital art back in about November-ish or whenever Black Friday occurs.  The tablet I’d been wanting finally dropped by $20 so I bought it immediately.  After doing maybe one drawing in Photoshop, I decided that I needed something that was built more for … well, really what I wanted.  Photoshop could probably accomplish that, but not without importing a lot of brush sets and whatnot.  So I installed Krita and that has currently been my go-to program for a while, though I’ve experimented somewhat with Manga Studio and Paint Tool SAI.  I probably like Manga Studio the best, but uh…Krita is free.  I like MS for linework, but Krita for painting, because MS seems to behave more…naturally, I guess.  Though I am enjoying the new pencil brush in that pack I downloaded for Krita.  Anyway, maybe I could use both in the future, but for now I’ll just stick with Krita.

Anyway, that was a huge tangent.  About a month before I got my tablet, Twitch launched their new thing called “Twitch Creative.”  The website was originally intended for all things “game-related” – board/card games, video games, gaming talk shows, etc.  I think a lot of people got away with doing art streams if what they were doing was game-related, but I don’t know for sure what the rules were.  In any case, the launch began with a two week marathon of all episodes of “The Joy of Painting” with Bob Ross.  After I got my tablet, I was still in an artist’s block.  So I ended up turning to Bob Ross for a little inspiration.

I spent a long time on both of these “paintings.”  I used one brush for most of what you see.  Well, two brushes – they are technically the same behaviorally, but one was more opaque than the other.  I am particularly fond of the trees in the second painting, but otherwise I’m a little “meh” towards both.  I still wanted to share them though, so I guess I like them enough to do that.  Anyway, there will be things I want to share later this week (unrelated to the drawing challenge) and I wasn’t sure when I would be able to share these as I didn’t want to overload with content.  But then I thought, hey, I own this blog! I can do whatever I want! So… there it is.

Anyway…I’ve got a distracting purring kitty cat on my lap so I’ve got to give her lots of cuddles.  See you on Friday!

What, something different?

I’m starting to get a little more serious about getting some art done, especially art unrelated to this year’s daily drawing challenge.  Partially this is to practice for my parents’ portrait commissions, but mostly I’ve just wanted to sit down and spend a LOT of time on a particular drawing.  This one took approximately 6 hours – I tried to time it, but kept losing track of when I started/stopped as I can only work on something for about 2 hours before needing a break.  I’m fairly happy with the result, though I know it could be better.  At first, she was supposed to be a “fox” or some animal but I picked colors arbitrarily.  My friend commented that she looked like something from the Jak and Daxter series.  It wasn’t the intention, but I don’t mind that being the end result.  Jak and Daxter was my first PS2 game and one of my favorite game series (though I never completed it).

I’m not sure what I’ll do next.  I might be a little ambitious and try to complete a (non daily) drawing every couple of weeks, but Alpha 14 for 7 Days to Die just came out so… maybe not.  Also, I still have those portraits to do…
